Our pupils achieve the best set of GCSE results in YMS history
We are delighted to report that our pupils have achieved the best GCSE results in the our nearly 60-year history. This is an outstanding achievement by our pupils, who split their time between academic and intense musical studies and activities. The results have also been accomplished despite the disruption caused by the pandemic and the widely publicised fall in top grades nationally.
54% of the grades were awarded at level 9, the highest level, and over 80% of grades were awarded at levels 6-9 (A* - B). Of particular note are two of the our Year 11 pupils who achieved a clean sweep of level 9 grades. Both will be studying A-levels in Music, History and German next year whilst continuing with their instrumental studies.
Headmaster, Ben Gudgeon, said “These are the best GCSE results the school has ever seen. We are immensely proud of our pupils and especially pleased that the hard work they have put into their academic study has been so well rewarded. This cohort has also been affected by COVID and spent a considerable amount of time studying for their GCSE subjects online, from many different countries around the world. We pride ourselves on the holistic nature of our curriculum, and for over half of the grades awarded to be at level 9 speaks once again of the power of music to bolster academic study.”
The results follow an exceptional set of A-Level results, with over 75% of pupils being awarded A*-B, and 30% at A*.
If you, or a young musician you know, is interested in studying at the School there will be an Opening Morning on Friday 14 October 2022. Prospective students, teachers, parents, and guardians can register on the YMS website.
