Our pupils achieve outstanding results in 2023 A-levels

We are so proud of our pupils who have achieved an excellent set of A-Level results this year. 65% of grades were awarded A*- A, with 43% at A*, and 95% of grades were awarded A*- C.

As with musical studies at the School, academics at YMS focus on high standards, and these results demonstrate the School’s commitment and success in achieving all-round outstanding education.

Our Headmaster, Ben Gudgeon, said We are delighted and proud to see the results of this year's A-level cohort. Intellectual curiosity is one of our core values at YMS and so it is not a coincidence that our outstanding young musicians have achieved such impressive results. These results, including straight A* grades for some pupils, were achieved while the year group was devoting upwards of 25 hours per week to practice, and the examination season coincided with a busy and successful Summer Festival at our concert venue, The Menuhin Hall, in which all pupils performed. It is well established that musical endeavours greatly enhance all aspects of school life, including academic attainment, and these results are testament, as per the National Plan for Music Education, to the power of music to change lives.

Over half of the YMS Year 13 pupils will stay on for a further year to focus on their musical studies. YMS Leavers will be going on to study at world-leading conservatoires including the Barenboim Academy in Berlin, Hochschule fur Musik und Tanz in Cologne, Musikhochschule Lübeck, Hochschule fur Müsik und Theater in Hamburg and The Royal Academy of Music and The Royal College of Music in London.

If you are interested in studying at the School and following in the footsteps of this year’s leaving students, there will be an Open Morning on Friday 6 October 2023. Prospective pupils, teachers, parents, and guardians can register online.
