Our Cambridge Trio!

We are thrilled to announce that three of our incredibly talented pupils have been offered places to study music at the University of Cambridge for September 2024. Colin joined the school in 2021, studying Double Bass under his professor Caroline Emery, and has received an offer from Clare College, Cambridge to study music. Mika and Tom both joined the school back in 2013 in the youngest year group, as day and boarding pupils, respectively. They both spent their time at YMS studying under our professor of Piano, Ruth Nye. Mika has received an offer from Clare College, Cambridge and Tom has received an offer from St. John’s College, Cambridge, both to study music.

Tom said, “I am so grateful for this opportunity which will open the doors for no doubt, a profusion of inspiration and more music-making! YMS has been a great place to grow up, and I felt very happy and at home from the moment I arrived. To anyone thinking of joining the school, I wholeheartedly recommend it. Not only will you learn classical music skills such as composition and performing to the highest level, but you will also build deep connections with people.”

Following Colin's offer to the University of Cambridge, he has also received the 'Outstanding Cambridge Learner Award’ for achieving the highest mark in the world for his Cambridge International A Level Music examination, in the June 2023 Cambridge exams!

Colin says “From a very young age, from my childhood spent in China, going to Cambridge has been a real dream of mine. And now, 10 years after, on the 23rd of January, that dream, that vision has become reality. That feeling when one’s hard work pays off is a truly special one, and, intriguingly, I found myself feeling ever so grateful for all that my friends, teachers and parents has taught me. The day is one that will be forever engraved in my memory.

With just 87 current pupils at the school, 17 of whom applied to higher education in the last year, this is a huge achievement and a testament to the dedication and hard work of these exceptional young musicians. We couldn't be prouder of their success, and we cannot wait to see where their passion for music takes them in the future.

We would love to see more pupils continuing their education and expanding their musical talent with us and we are excited to confirm that we are now accepting years 5 and 6 as day pupils. Starting from September 2024, we will be offering pupils aged 9 to 19 an incredible opportunity to develop their musical talent with us.
