There was plenty to celebrate at YMS today as pupils received a brilliant set of GCSE results, the reward for months of hard work and dedication.
Among the Year 11 cohort, Grade 9 was the most common result, making up 37% of all exams taken. An impressive 71% of grades were at 9–7 (the equivalent of the old A*–A). For the first time since the teacher-assessed grades during COVID, every single pupil secured a pass at Grade 4 or above - a testament to their resilience and commitment.
When including the foreign language GCSEs completed by pupils in B1 (Year 10), the overall results are even stronger: 43% of all exams were awarded a Grade 9, and 74% achieved a Grade 9–7.
Robin Harskin, Head of YMS, congratulated pupils on their achievements: “I am immensely proud of the outstanding GCSE results published today. Our pupils' achievements bear comparison with the very best academic schools, which is remarkable considering the intensity of the world-class musical education they receive alongside their academic studies. I cannot wait to welcome them back to congratulate them personally when term begins in two weeks.”
Behind the statistics lies a story of determination, long hours of revision, and the support of teachers and families. These results are not only an academic triumph but also a reflection of the character and commitment of the pupils themselves. Well done to all!
