News Story

We were sad to learn of the death of Malcolm Hossick (1 June 1935 – 9 December 2025), a much-loved former member of staff and an inspiring presence in our community.

Malcolm taught English at the School from 1975 to 1982, where he was a close friend of the then Head, Peter Renshaw, and played a central role in the dramatic life of the School. He worked extensively with pupils to bring literature to life and encouraged them to find confidence, imagination and joy through drama. Many pupils will remember his wonderful singing in Fauré’s Requiem, whenever it was performed at the School. Music, drama and words were at the heart of all he did, and he shared these passions generously with those around him.

Beyond his years in teaching, Malcolm led a richly varied life as a filmmaker, theatre director, singer and entrepreneur. He will be remembered with warmth, gratitude and admiration by colleagues, pupils and friends alike.

A memorial concert will be held on 29 March 2026 at 3.00pm at Kimmerghame House, Fettes College, Edinburgh.
