Nigel Hutchison

Nigel has performed internationally both as a solo artist and chamber musician. After graduating from the University of Glasgow, he continued his studies at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, and the Juilliard School in New York on a Fulbright Scholarship. Since his successful Wigmore Hall debut he has performed throughout Europe, the USA, the Middle East, as well as China, Korea and Japan.
He has performed with most of the UK orchestras in major venues including the Royal Albert Hall, Royal Festival Hall, and Barbican Hall. His recording of Saint-Saëns’ Carnival of the Animals with the London Symphony Orchestra was named a choice recording of the year in Gramophone magazine. He also made an acclaimed recording of the Shostakovich violin and piano sonata with violinist Mayuko Katsumura. For many years he was a pianist and assistant for the violin master classes of Yfrah Neaman.
As a chamber musician he has partnered many distinguished artists and has been invited to be official pianist for several international competitions. These include the Menuhin, Britten, and Windsor International Competitions, and the All China Violin Competition held in Qingdao.
He is presently an accompanist and coach at the Yehudi Menuhin School.
