Kevin Loh
Guitarist
Hi there! I am Kevin Loh, a classical guitarist from Singapore, and I had the privilege of being a student at the Menuhin School from 2010 to 2017. This was followed by 2 years of military service in Singapore, before pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Music at the University of Cambridge. (Feel free to read more about me in my biography if you’re interested! https://kevinlohguitar.wordpress.com/biography/)
The time I spent at YMS gave me some of the most memorable years of my life, but I would not have been at Menuhin if it were not for the power of social media. In fact, it was through my YouTube channel where I was first noticed by the School and subsequently received an invitation to audition. It was a huge stroke of luck that I certainly did not expect, especially when the concept of social media was still in its infancy at the time. But now, social media has grown into such a huge part of everyone’s daily lives, and it has become an incredibly powerful tool that we can harness to expand our audiences and connect with potential future employers for concerts and festivals amongst other things.
Apart from honing your craft, there are so many facets to being a successful musician, including organisational and marketing skills. Navigating through all these skills can be daunting, so it is important to gain as much experience at an early stage. I was fortunate to start this process early on, working on social media, as well as audio and visual skills for YouTube. I have even organised concerts for international artists in Singapore, dealing with their publicity, marketing, and logistics.
It would be my honour as an alumnus to share my experiences with you and hopefully, you will be able to take away some useful lessons that you can apply to your own development, musical or otherwise.
Here is wishing you all the very best, and I look forward to getting to know you all!
