Job Description
The Yehudi Menuhin School seeks to appoint a Cleaner to work at the Menuhin Hall every Saturday and assist with cleaning and housekeeping in the main school buildings when required from early February 2026.
Key Areas of Responsibility
• Regularly clean all areas of the Menuhin Hall.
• Clean the kitchen and bar area when required.
• Clean/tidy auditorium.
• Wipe Clean the tables.
• Clean all of the toilets in the hall and change the toilet rolls when necessary.
• Hoover and clean the ground floor and upper foyer areas of the Hall.
• In the main school buildings, clean bedrooms, change bedding, cleaning staff and student accommodation and classrooms when requested.
Duties listed are not exhaustive; all members of staff are expected to undertake duties reasonably required by the Head.
Person Specification
Experience & Knowledge
• Previous experience in cleaning roles (commercial or domestic).
• Knowledge of safe use of cleaning chemicals and equipment.
• Understanding of health and safety regulations, including COSHH.
Skills & Abilities
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Good attention to detail and high standards of cleanliness.
• Ability to follow instructions and adhere to schedules.
• Physical ability to perform cleaning tasks (e.g. lifting, bending, standing for long periods).
Personal Qualities
• Reliable and punctual.
• Honest and trustworthy.
• Positive attitude and willingness to learn.
• Respectful and professional when interacting with staff and visitors.
Desirable Criteria
• Experience in a similar environment (e.g. schools, offices, healthcare).
• Basic knowledge of infection control procedures.
• Flexibility to work additional hours if required.
The School is registered with the DBS and successful applicants will be required to complete successfully the Disclosure Procedure at Enhanced level. It is an offence for a person barred from working with children to apply for this post.
This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and the amendments to the Exceptions Order 1975, 2013 and 2020.
