The Menuhin Hall’s Summer Festival opens tomorrow

The Menuhin Hall kicks off the annual Summer Festival of classical music tomorrow, Friday 1 July. Running for 8 days until Friday 8 July, the Festival offers a variety of picnics, showcases, concerts and workshops suited to the whole family, and celebrates the incredible talent of our YMS pupils.

The programme also includes appearances from world-famous classical musicians. School alumna and celebrated violinist Nicola Benedetti, will host a workshop on Sunday 3 July for young string players and teachers from the local community, with her team at the Benedetti Foundation, in partnership with Surrey Music Hub. Grammy Award-winning conductor, viola player and YMS Associate Artist, Maxim Rsyanov, will bring the Festival to a close by performing as a soloist and conducting the YMS Senior Orchestra.

Most of the events are held in our beautiful grounds and at The Menuhin Hall in Cobham, Surrey so, if you are local, there is no excuse not to join the celebrations. Tickets start at just £10 and all Menuhin Hall events are free for under-18s. And if you book three showcases, you will get a special discount of 33%.

The festival opens with a concert at The Menuhin Hall by our Director of Music, Ashley Wass, and pupils on 1 Friday July at 7.30pm. Audiences will enjoy a series of solo and chamber performances including Shostakovich's much-loved Piano Trio No 2.

Speaking about the Festival, Ashley said: “I am thrilled to present our Summer Festival which draws many worlds of music together and gives audiences the chance to deep dive into a wide range of classical music, whilst experiencing the amazing talent of the pupils at the YMS. There will also be a chance to see two of the world’s leading string players right on your door step. Community is at the very heart of our ethos at the school and we look forward to welcoming local audiences, current and new, to the festival.”
